Is the treatment painful?
The treatment sensation does vary from client to client and also depending on the area being treated. The treatment isn’t painful but you do feel heat in the area being treated and a short ‘snapping’ sensation on the skin, similar to an elastic band pricking the skin. It is a very quick procedure and causes very minimal discomfort.

Do hairs re-appear after the first treatment?
The heat from the ellipse applicator head kills the hairs but the hairs remain in the follicle until they start to shed, which is usually 1-3 weeks after the treatment. It will seem that the hairs are growing as the epidermis is pushing them out but this is the skins natural shedding process. Exfoliating 7 days after treatment will help to encourage the hairs out of the follicle quicker. For pemanent results, a course of up to 6 treatments may be required every 4 weeks for facial hair and every 6 weeks for body hair.

What are the side effects?
The most common effect is slight erythema (redness) and possible swelling to that area because of heat retention. This would normally subside over the next 24hours after treatment. Other side effects such as pigmentation changes, are extremely rare and if correct machine and client guidelines are followed the risk of any adverse effect is minimal. All concerns can be discussed with one of our nurses during a free consultation. A Patch Test must be carried out at least 48 hours before the treatment to reduce the risk of an adverse reaction.

Is the treatment safe?
Yes, the treatment is completely safe. It contains a patented ‘dual mode filtering’ system, which removes all unnecessary and potentially harmful wavelengths. All the settings are programmed into the system by the operator to suit specific for hair and skin types. We would recommend that you have visible hair growth for your consultation so that the nurse may assess the hair colour and type.

Is there any reason why I might not be suitable for the treatment?
A full consultation and patch test will be carried out before your treatment but mainly pregnancy or having been in the sun in the last 4 weeks are contraindications to treatment. Other things such as pacemaker, cancer, heart disease, keloid scarring, anti-inflammatory medication, diabetes, vitaligo and epilepsy. We would always recommend a consultation to confirm suitability for treatment.

Can I continue removing the hair in between treatments?
You can shave the hair in between sessions but you cannot remove it by the root so no waxing, tweezing or hair removal creams. This is very important for the treatment to be successful.

Is the treatment only suitable for people with dark hair?
The Laser is drawn to the pigment in the hair so light brown to black is ideal. Unfortunately we cannot treat white or red hairs.
